Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Bangalore launches four Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) in collaboration with edX, the online learning initiative founded by Harvard University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

While two courses will be launched in July, one will be launched in August and another in October this year. These includes ‘Innovation and IT Management’, a six-week course with focus on management and implementation of IT and innovation in the workplace. Dr Rahul De, the Hewlett-Packard chair professor in ICT for sustainable economic development at IIM Bangalore has been appointed as the instructor of the course. The other course is on ‘Statistics for Business’, a five-week course that will introduce one to statistics and teach one to examine data from the perspective of business scenarios and will largely target learners willing to enroll in business programmes.

The course on Introduction to operations management will be launched in August this year. The seven week course will equip takers with business operations and lean management, including capacity, productivity, quality, and supply chain. Another six-week course called ‘Statistics for Business – II’, aimed at enabling students to examine data drawn from finance and HR and others allied fields of business will be launched in October.

“India is an important market for us, and is home to the largest population of edX learners outside of the United States. We are pleased that IIM Bangalore has launched their courses on our platform. With this partnership, we aim to expand the learning horizon for our learners in India and around the world,” says Anant Agarwal, CEO, edX.

Interested candidates can enrol for the courses now. They will have an option to either pursue an honor code get a verified certificate of achievement. Whereas, the honour code allows access to all course materials, tests and online discussion forums for free, one can obtain certification by paying Rs 1,500.

IIM Bangalore is the first Indian institute to become a member of xConsortium at edX. xConsortium comprises of recognised business schools from across the globe as its members.
