A career in the hospitality sector is hot and happening. The job is about ensuring a comfortable stay for the guest who has just checked in. It’s also about personal attention and setting standards.There are a pool of professionals required to look after guests. They include those who work in the front office, in the food and beverage department of a hotel such as chefs or quality experts and the housekeeping department. Hotel management trainees can look forward to join hotels, restaurants, spas, catering companies, hospitals, airlines, resorts and even retail chains.

Clock Work
9.00 am: Reach office
9.30 am: Meeting with HODs
10.30 am: Take a round of the hotel
11.00 am: Start training sessions
4.00 pm: Round of meetings
6.00 pm: Check the spa
8.00 pm: Get back home.

The payoff
Management trainee: Rs15000 to Rs17000
Assistant manager: Rs22000 to Rs25000
Manager: Rs30000 to Rs35000
Associate director: Rs40000 to Rs45000
Director: Rs50000.

How do i get there?
National Council for Hotel management and Catering Technology regulates academics for hospitality and hotel administration. It conducts a joint entrance exam in collaboration with Indira Gandhi National Open University for a BSc programme in hospitality and hotel administration. Private hotel management institutes conduct their exam. Diploma and degree courses are also available.
