Students win over Rs. 1 lakh in app contest

Datawind, the developers of Aakash tablet computer, announced the results of the software app innovation ‘AapKiApp’ contest for their Ubislate series of tablets. It had invited students in India to submit their innovative ‘software applications’ for collaboration. The five winners are: Krishi Ville, an app Indian farmers which will provide the latest agricultural market data. Created by Manav Singhal and Nishant Rai from Meerut, it will pull live data from the Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) database. Axon, a quiz application for students with questions on maths, logic and verbal reasoning at different difficulty levels, has been created by Saurabh, Sujay Anjankar, Tanya Tiwari and Umesh Chandani from Nagpur. Release my Food is an app for children to calculate their calories and nutrients based on their daily food intake. It has been created by Kedar Radhakrishnan, Avin Agarwal, Abijeet Waghmare and Najmul Islam from Bangalore. Learn English is an app for kids to learn a new language. My Jobs, an app created by Hemen Parekh of Mumbai, uses the database of vocational jobs in India and lets people search and apply for them online. The applications will get an award of Rs. 1 lakh each, apart from a share of the advertising revenue.
