Toefl announces $70,000 awards

For the third year in a row, United States-based Educational Testing Service (ETS) is offering Toefl scholarships in India. Under the 2012 Toefl Scholarship Programme meant for Indian students, there are 10 scholarships worth about $70,000, up by $10,000 from last year. Scholarship funding can be used for undergraduate or graduate study in the 2012 academic year.

ETS administers the Toefl, or Test of English as Foreign Language, the scores of which are one of the criteria for admission to many institutions around the world.

Toefl is recognised by more than 8000 institutions in more than 130 countries.

ETS has announced that 10 scholarships will honour Indian students demonstrating academic success including:
* Four $10,000 scholarships for study at a college or university in Australia, Canada, United Kingdom, and/or the United States and listed in the TOEFL Destinations Directory.
* Six $5000 scholarships for study at any college or university listed in the TOEFL Destinations Directory.

An aspirant must have a grade point average (GPA) of 80 or higher on a 100-point scale or 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale.
