The results of the West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination (WBJEE) were announced in Kolkata on Friday.

Chairman of the board Professor Bhaskar Gupta said that a total of 1,29,654 candidates appared for this year's exam: Of these, 1,05,081 appeared for engineering and 89,882 became eligible for counselling. Similarly, in medical stream, 5,793 candidates became eligible for counselling from among 62,640 candidates who had appeared for the examination. Some of the candidates appeared both for the medical and the enginerring (combined) examination.
Prof Gupta also said that in the medical exam, North 24 Parganas district beat Kolkata as more students from that district became eligible for counselling.
While 821 students from North 24 Parganas district became eligible for counselling to get into medical colleges, 814 students became eligible from Kolkata.
Burdwan district stood third with 591 candidates becoming eligible from this region for counselling to get admissions into medical colleges.
The chairman further said that the results were published within 29 days after the JEE examinations were conducted.
"This year we were able to deal with e-cheating strictly, since we have used RF Signal detector which helps in tracking devices that are used for e-cheating," the WBJEE board chairman said.
