Trinamool Congress workers allegedly attacked an election meeting of BJP candidate and popular Bollywood playback singer Babul Supriyo on Saturday afternoon in Asansol.
Though the singer was spared, he said one of the BJP workers was injured and hospitalised.
Supriyo has sung some of the popular numbers for Kaho Naa Pyar Hai, Fanaa, Hum Tum and Company.
"We have lodged a complaint with the local police station. We demand an unconditional apology from those who attacked us," said Supriyo.
"Just when the support for BJP is growing in the state, Trinamool is stepping up attacks on us. Hooligans backed by the ruling party are increasingly attacking us. We have informed the EC," said BJP state president Rahul Sinha.
Asansol goes to polls on May 7.
Over the past few weeks, the war of words between Trinamool Congress and the BJP has been growing intense. Mamata Banerjee has been devoting more time to attacking the BJP and Narendra Modi than Congress or CPI(M).
The rivalry intensified after Modi launched an all out attack against Mamata at his rally in Siliguri on April 10, saying the parivartan (change) West Bengal pined for has not come because TMC was indulging in vote bank politicians.
