Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has come up with innovative fundraising ideas to take on cash-rich Congress and BJP in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
They include donations through an an online shopping portal and a crowd-funding platform commonly used by NGOs to raise money for a cause.
“We are signing a contract with an online shopping portal which will enable shoppers to donate for the party along with the price of the product he is shopping for,” Kumar Gaurav, a member of the party’s fundraising team, told HT.
Printland.in, an online portal that sells merchandise with customised printing on them will soon add the feature ‘donate for AAP’ on its website. “The shopper will soon have the option to add the donation amount with a maximum limit of `10,000,” Gaurav said.
The party is exploring such options in order to raise at least `200 crore, of which it collected `12 crore till Thursday.
AAP is also using a crowd-funding platform called BitGiving. It has fixed `25 lakh as contribution for the party ‘towards new wave of politics in India’. It will later ask people to contribute for its candidates.
Besides, the party would be using the ‘AAP ka daan’ application for android mobile phones.
Through this app, the volunteer collecting the donation amount will be filling in the particulars of the donor and send him an online receipt on his mobile phone or through email.
AAP had earlier announced its fundraising dinner campaigns, in which a person can dine with party chief Arvind Kejriwal by paying a minimum of Rs 15,000 in Nagpur and Rs 20,000 in Bangalore. The dinner in Bangalore is scheduled on Saturday.
