Telangana Rashtra Samithi chief K Chandrasekhara Rao, who had refused to merge with the Congress after the Telangana bill was passed and even declined to strike a pre-poll alliance with it, said on Friday that his party would support the Congress if it forms the government at the Centre.
Hitting out at the TDP-BJP combine, Rao said the TDP would suffer electorally in both regions — Telangana and Seemandhra - and end Chandrababu Naidu’s political career. Rao, who called Narendra Modi a moron during the election campaign, said he would not ally with the NDA at any cost.
Rao, who held an election review meeting with all his party candidates, said he was confident of winning about 90 of the 119 assembly seats in Telangana and forming the government in the state that is to become a constitutional reality on June 2.
“I am ready to support the Congress government under Rahul Gandhi,” Rao said, exuding confidence that the TRS would win most of the 17 Lok Sabha seats in the region. He said it was the favourable stand taken by Sonia Gandhi and Rahul that made the Telangana state possible. “We have no animosity towards them,” he said.
Rao also said YSR Congress leader Jaganmohan Reddy who would win in Seemandhra to become its first chief minister.
