When the Jharkhand Vikas Morcha-Prajatantrik (JVM-P) candidate from Ranchi, Amitabh Choudhary, started losing hair some years back, he had no inkling that destiny was rubbing its hands in glee and planning the ultimate clincher.
The party symbol of this ex-IPS officer and president of Jharkhand State Cricket Association (JSCA) is — a comb.
And in poll season, the bald Choudhary finds himself surrounded by more combs than he needs or probably wishes to see. Combs on party flags, combs on posters and combs on graffiti.
The contrast is not lost on his rivals. "Takle ke hath me kangi de diya, kya karega (What will a bald man do with a comb)," a BJP functionary remarked after Choudhary's candidature was announced.
Choudhary supporters, however, argue that even minus his mane, he looks smarter that other candidates in the fray in the hometown of Indian cricket team captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni, who once used to sport quite a luxurious mane.
Choudhary, who has been sporting the Yul Brynner look for a few years, could not be reached for comment.
