Tamil Nadu chief minister J Jayalalithaa has still kept the suspense on whether she will attend the swearing-in ceremony of Narendra Modi on Monday. TV channels reported on Sunday that Jayalalithaa will not attend the swearing-in ceremony. However, Hindustan Times has not been able to independently confirm this news.

Earlier, Jayalalithaa had opposed the move to invite Sri Lanka President Mahinda Rajapaksa to PM-designate Narendra Modi's swering in ceremony.

DMK president M Karunanidhi and BJP ally and PMK chief S Ramadoss have also protested against the invitation to Rajapaksa to attend the coronation.

Karunanidhi said on Friday that the Modi government should review its decision and withdraw its invite to Sri Lankan president.

“Just like the previous Congress governments, the BJP too is ignoring Tamil sentiments,” he said in a statement.

The issue was first raised by BJP ally Vaiko of MDMK who asked Modi to withdraw the invitation as it would mean insulting Tamil sentiments. Other Tamil Nadu parties joined in the chorus later.
