Government officials in Tamil Nadu are upset over senior IPS official Archana Ramasundaram's "harassment" by the J Jayalalithaa government.
"It is sad that an upright and honest officer has become a political football. Just because of two wrongs committed by the Centre and Tamil Nadu government, Archana has to pay a heavy price," said former IAS official MG Devasahayam on Saturday. "First her appointment in the CBI was wrong, and after she assumed charge, her suspension was equally wrong," he added.
Ramasundaram, whose name was sent for deputation by the state, was chosen by the appointments committee of the Cabinet presided over by the prime minister, which is in contravention of Supreme Court guidelines. She has not only been stopped from performing the duties of CBI additional director by the SC, but has also been suspended by the TN government for deserting her state post.
Other officials echoed similar sentiments but pleaded that they not be identified. "Suspension is a very severe action," said an official.
"The action against Archana is being seen more as an attempt to get back at her husband Ram Ramasundaram, a former IAS official who is considered close to DMK chief M Karunanidhi," added Devasahayam, who has been speaking against politicisation of bureaucracy and police administration.
