Congress chief Sonia Gandhi hit the campaign trail in Jharkhand and Uttar Pradesh on Friday, highlighting the progress made by the nation under the party's rule and attacking the BJP and its prime ministerial nominee Narendra Modi.

Without naming Modi, she called the BJP's PM candidate a "big liar" and asked voters to keep his party, "a bunch of liars", out of reckoning in the polls. "They claim to change everything in a day. Do they have a magic wand?" wondered Gandhi at a rally in Ramgarh district of Hazaribagh constituency, Jharkhand.

On the UPA government's achievements, she said: "They say we have done nothing. But actually the Congress has given the country the right to information and food…They are wearing tinted glasses, unable to see the development work under the Congress government at the Centre."

In Aligarh, she told voters that it was a matter of pride that in the 15 Lok Sabha elections, the Congress was voted to power 11 times and ruled the country for 55 years since Independence, all due to its hard work for the nation's progress.
