A huge loss to the LGBT community: Onir

As soon as the news of noted filmmaker Rituparno's demise spread, Twitter was abuzz with people from all walks of life lamenting the loss to Indian filmmaking. Director Onir wrote, "His passing away will be a big loss not only to lovers of cinema and art but a huge loss to the LGBT community."

Rituparno Ghosh, one of the most talented young film directors of the country, died at his home in Kolkata around 7.30am on Thursday. The multiple awards winning filmmaker was 49. Ghosh was suffering from disease of the pancreas. The director died in his sleep. Members of his family discovered his death around 8am.

Anupam Kher reminisced the filmmaker's understanding of human behaviour and wrote:
