This market is lined up with rows of sari and jewellery stores and eateries selling tangy chaat to munch on. No, we are not talking about Old Delhi’s Chandni Chowk. In our journey to explore Delhi through the Metro, this week, we bring to you the not-so-talked-about Kohat Enclave in Pitampura, north Delhi.

Exit from Gate No 3 of the Kohat Enclave Metro Station to find Nishant Kunj Market, popularly known as Kohat Enclave.

Shop
The moment you emerge from the station, you will see Sona, Hira, Champalal and Vasundhara — jewellery shops, frequented by wedding shoppers. The shops are known for their exclusive designs of traditional gold and diamond jewellery. “Every time I need to buy gold jewellery, I come to this market. Even though it’s not very popular, the jewellery designs available in here are very innovative,” says Meenu Puri, 32, a resident of Pitampura.

Move a little ahead and you will find sari shops that also stock up salwar kameez and lehengas. The prices of saris start at R1,000 and goes up to R40,000. The market also has its share of branded showrooms, such as Weekender and Madame among others. Enter the narrow lanes in the market to find grocery and stationery shops.

Eating out
If shopping is not on your mind, then visit this market for yummy traditional Indian snacks. Walk straight from the Metro station to reach Gugar’s Bikaneri Restaurant, popular among the locals as ‘Gugar ki dukkan’.

Try the Gujarati fafde served with green chilli pickle. Priced at R50 for a pack of 250 gms, they are worth a try. You could even go for pao bhaji, priced at R60. Other eating options are available at Prem Se bakery shop and Bansal sweets, known for their tasty kachoris at R10 per piece. Cross the road to reach Gulab Sweet House.Popular for its variety of gajjak and rewari, the decor of this 13-year-old restaurant is done up in Rajasthani style. Go for the Gulab Chikki, priced at R660 a kilo, made up of rose petals and dry fruits. The restaurant also has a dining and chaat menu. “Over the years, people have taken our restaurant very well,” says Subhash Gupta, owner of the restaurant. Adjacent to Gulab is Big Bake; visit this place for its breads and cookies. Along with women carrying shopping bags, you are likely to find students at the eateries here, since the market has various coaching centres.
