Hundreds of fans gathered for autographs, when Bollywood actor Aamir Khan and wife Kiran Rao walked the red carpet at the 61st Berlinale on Thursday night.
Aamir, who is part of the jury of the 10-day film festival in Berlin, walked the red carpet with Kiran at the premiere of the Oscar-nominated film, True Grit. Despite his warm reception, Aamir said that he was not sure why the Berlinale chose him as a jury member. “I wonder why I am selected. I make films instinctively. I have not studied films. I have no formal education in filmmaking,” said the actor.
Talking about the poor representation of Indian cinema at international film festivals, Aamir said the trend is changing, but added, “I think it is because Indian filmmakers know that there is a large and healthy audience at home for their films and they are not looking for audiences outside of India.”
