Birthdays are special affairs, especially in Bollywood where stars throw lavish parties to celebrate. And while we hear of soirees being thrown by star friends for their equally famous pals, this time around it was Aamir Khan’s children, Ira and Junaid, who decided to make their grandmother, Zeenat Hussain’s 80th birthday a special one.

The party took place on June 14, in Bandra. The brother-sister duo planned every aspect of the event together, collaborating with their father, uncle Faisal, and aunts Farhat and Nikhat to make the guest list. They also came up with the décor and crafted an invitation card for the occasion.

The family get-together featured a screening of one of Hussain’s husband, the late film-maker Tahir Hussain’s, popular films. Ira and Junaid made another video mapping the Hussains’ life journey for their grandmother and this, along with clips sent by those who could not attend the party, was screened as well. Relatives and friends of Hussain, who is originally from Bhopal, flew in to the city.

A source present at the party says, “She was very surprised with all the preparations and was happy that she got to spend the evening with her family, friends, children and grandchildren — all of them under one roof. She lives alone at Marina Apartments in Bandra (where Aamir lived earlier), so she was completely unaware of the plan. All the meetings regarding the party were held at Aamir’s house at Carter Road in Bandra.”

Aamir’s nephew, actor Imran Khan, sadly couldn’t make it to the party. He says, “It was the second day after Avantika (Malik) and I had come home with Imara. We were babysitting so we couldn’t make it. But my mother had attended the do. It was a lovely family affair.”
