Is actor Aamir Khan going overboard in a bid to promote his upcoming film, 3 Idiots? The actor, who is currently on a drive to visit various parts of the country in disguise to ‘innovatively’ promote the movie, may soon find himself in a soup.

The owner of a hotel in Mughalsarai near Varanasi, where Khan stayed during his recent hush-hush trip to Uttar Pradesh, has been served a notice for allowing him in without a proper verification. The notice has led to speculations on whether Khan flouted rules to protect his identity. In case he did, his entire promotional campaign may be in jeopardy.

Laxmi Narain, Superintendent of Police at Chandauli near Varanasi informed that Vansha Narain Singh, owner of Hotel Saraswati at Mughalsarai was served a notice yesterday to explain why he did not verify Aamir Khan’s details before letting him stay there. “In view of a terror threat, all hotels in the area have been instructed to verify their guests properly before allowing them to stay. They are also bound to inform the local police about any suspect, staying in their hotel,” he said, wondering if the actor was allowed to stay over in disguise, it could imply that anyone could stay at the hotel under false identity.

Continuing with his promotional drive, Aamir found himself embarrassed outside cricketer Sourav Ganguly’s bungalow on Tuesday in Kolkata when the guard, who couldn’t recognise the star refused to let him and his wife, Kiran, in.
