Delhi is already gearing up to salute cricketer Sachin Tendulkar, when he plays his last test in Mumbai, starting November 14. Tendulkar tattoos, photo cakes, special offers at restaurants, dishes named after him and memorabilia have become a rage in the city in the run up to the master blaster’s retirement.

“We have designed a special menu called ‘Legendary Menu for Legend Sachin’. The menu has specials like Sachin Prawns (Tequila soaked prawns served with lime and a pinch of salt) served with complimentary Sachin Mojitos,”says Pranay Kumar from Roost Bistro in Hauz Khas. “We have created a ‘Sachin special’ menu that includes dishes such as Sachin Dal Tadka, Sachin Kadhai Paneer, Sachin Butter chicken and more,” adds Priyank Sukhija of Lazeez Affaire.

Apart from special offers and screening of the test, restaurants also plan to screen Sachin’s iconic matches. “We are introducing Special Pizza delights called Master Blaster Pizzas. We will also be screening Sachin specials to celebrate his contribution to cricket,” says Rohit Kapoor from Hauz Khas’ Pizzeria Rossa.

Tattoo artists, websites and shops selling Sachin merchandise are also making hay. “There’s a demand for Sachin’s jersey throughout the year, but after his retirement declaration, there has been an almost 20% hike in the sale of jersey number 10,” says an Adidas store manager, not wishing to be named. The more ardent fans have, however, decided to get inked to pay an everlasting tribute to the 40-year-old cricketer. “Following the announcement, many people have asked for the Sachin tattoo. One of my clients even got a portrait of Sachin Tendulkar inked on his chest. Others have got his name tattooed on the wrists or on the back,” says Lokesh Verma of Devilz Tattooz. ‘Sachin Tendulkar 200 km challenge’ — a Facebook event, encourages Sachin’s fans to run for 200 km before he plays his 200th test. The fans have been living up to the challenge by

updating their daily progress. While everyone is trying some ‘jugaad’ for the very limited tickets to the match in Mumbai, Bollywood, too, isn’t lagging behind. “Guess only 5,000 tickets are up for sale. I am going to catch someone who has a box at Wankhede and be there,” says filmmaker Kunal Kohli.
