He was famous for his insurmountable zeal towards life. So, staying true to the late Rajesh Khanna’s never-say-die spirit, his son-in-law Akshay Kumar and family have decided to celebrate the “incredible life” of Kaka – instead of mourning his demise – this Diwali. Khanna passed away in July this year.

“We are celebrating Diwali to respect my late father-in-law’s wishes. He was a man who celebrated life to the fullest. I have looked up to him as a die-hard fan and as a humble son-in-law, and we all know how much he hated tears,” says Akshay. A source close to the star adds, “It is Akshay’s unique way to pay homage to the superstar he grew up watching.”

So the family will keep Kaka’s indomitable spirit alive and go ahead with their Diwali celebrations. “We will come together and celebrate the incredible life of Rajesh Khanna and my beloved daughter,” says the actor, referring to his and wife Twinkle’s second child, Nitara, who was born in September. “I can state with confidence that he would have wanted it this way. And I am sure that people across the country will also remember him with a lot of goodwill since he touched so many lives over the years.”

As reported earlier, Akshay has also given his late father-in-law’s surname, Khanna, to his child. She was named Nitara Khanna-Bhatia. Akshay and Twinkle also have a 10-year-old son, Aarav.
