Singer Akon talks to Hindustan times about his experiances in India and a lot more.
On being in Mumbai
"This is a great city and has a great spirit. I've been to India before and it's always a pleasure to be here. It's like my home country, Africa, warm and welcoming."
On his trips to India
“I want to expand my horizons. I want to collaborate with new artistes, singers and composers on my tracks. When I was offered to work on a song for a Hindi movie, I was thrilled, because it looked like a much-awaited opportunity to extend myself as an artiste. I intend to know more and learn more from my trips here.”
On Shah Rukh Khan
“I know Shah Rukh very well. I've followed his work, ever since we met in New York. He's been in touch. He's a special person. I just have two days and I have to record a special track for his film, Ra.One. I'm looking forward to it.”
On the special song
“I plan to hit the recording studio immediately with my team and work a few options for Shah Rukh. I want to leave him with loads of options to choose from for his special song in his film. I have Vishal Shekhar for company, and they, I'm sure will help me give the song an Indian flavour. I want it to be a mix of Bollywood music and my kinda stuff.”
On Bollywood songs
“I've heard loads of them, though I can't remember any right now. I always follow music regardless of where it comes from. It's a pleasure to be a part of a Bollywood song. You might just here some Hindi lines from me in this song.”
On having an India concert
“I plan to have a world tour very soon. And once it kick starts, India is definitely on the radar. I really want to come here and perform for my fans here. I wasn't aware of the kind of following I had here, until I saw it. Now, I'm more than happy to perform here.”
On featuring in the special Ra.One music video
“I don't know about that, but I'm really keen to be a part of the video with Shah Rukh and Kareena (Kapoor). I'm meeting her for the first time. She's indeed beautiful and I'm sure she'll be a great person to discover in the course of making music here.”
