Akshay Kumar has received a special invite from the organisers of the Luv Kush Ramlila Committee, Delhi. The Delhi boy will be the first Bollywood actor to be approached by the committee to do the honour of burning down the Ravana effigy. In the past, only political bigwigs have shot the flaming arrow.

A source close to the actor reveals, “The Luv Kush Ramlila is one of the biggest in Delhi, and takes place at the Lal Qilla every year. Political bigwigs such as ministers are invited to burn the Ravana effigies usually. This time the committee has approached a Bollywood actor to do so. As Akshay is from Chandni Chowk, they though it was apt to have him present. Since an actor hasn’t been part of this celebration before, it is a moment of pride for Akshay.”

The source adds, “Akshay has accepted the invitation. Though he is busy promoting his upcoming film, Boss, he will be present there on Dussehra for the Ravana wadh.”

Ask Akshay about this and he says, “It is an honour to be a part of such a momentous occasion. I thank the organisers for inviting me. Delhi holds a special place in my heart since I grew up there. It will indeed be special to be present at the Ravana wadh there.”

He says, “We have invited Akshay as he has a Delhi connect. We chose a Bollywood personality as we want to attract youngsters to the event. A day before, Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone will come to the Ramlila as well.”
