Actor Akshay Kumar will soon become the first Bollywood actor to set fire to the Ravana effigy at the popular Lav-Kush Ramlila in Delhi.

The Delhi boy has been approached to do the honours, which in the past have only been performed by political bigwigs.

The Lav-Kush Ramlila is one of the biggest and oldest, and takes place at the Lal Qila every year.

Akshay, who has especially taken out time from his film promotions to be a part of the festivities, says, “It is an honour to be a part of such a momentous occasion. I thank the organisers for inviting me. Delhi holds a special place in my heart since I grew up there. It will be indeed special to do the Ravana Vadh there.” Dussehra is marked on day 10 of the Navratri celebrations. In the Ravana Vadh ceremony, Lord Ram kills Ravana to symbolise good over evil.

“We have invited Akshay as he is from Chandni Chowk. We chose a Bollywood hero as we want to attract youngsters to the event. A day before, actors Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone will come to the Ramlila, says Arjun Kumar of the Lav-Kush Ramlila committee.”
