Aniston slammed for 'retard' usage

Friends actress Jennifer Aniston has been courting controversy these days. The actress was recently criticised by disability advocates for using the word "retard" in an interview.

Aniston recently appeared on Live with Regis and Kelly talk show to promote her upcoming flick The Switch. When asked about the actress' Harper's Bazaar Barbra Streisand photos, the actress replied, "I play dress up! I do it for a living, like a retard!" said Aniston.

The actress' casual reference to mentally challenged people has created a backlash on social networking forums. Condemning Aniston's insensitive remark, The Special Olympics Movement said, "Special Olympics is always disappointed when the R-word is used, especially by someone who is influential to society," the statement reads. "The pervasive use of the R-word, even in an off the cuff self-deprecating manner, dehumanizes people with intellectual disabilities and perpetuates painful stereotypes that are a great source of suffering and negative stigma."

The organization added, "We hope everyone will take our pledge to stop using the R-word and promote the inclusion and acceptance of people with intellectual disabilities at"
