Spanish actor Antonio Banderas is all set to return to the stage for a musical adaptation of the classic film Zorba the Greek.
The Desperado star will play the lead role in the stage adaptation of the 1964 film based on a book by Nikos Kazantzakis, Contactmusic reported.
"I want to go back to theatre because it is my main source, I'm more a theatre actor than a film actor," Banderas said.
The Mask of Zorro star was recently honoured at the at Karlovy Vary Film Festival in the Czech Republic with the President's Prize. He has already achieved critical acclaim in broadway for his performance in Maury Yeston's musical Nine, based on the film 8½, playing the prime role.
Banderas won both the Outer Critics Circle and Drama Desk awards, and was nominated for the Tony Award for best actor in a musical for his performance in Nine.
