Several film and television celebrities joined the political bandwagon during the general elections last year. Now, Twitter is abuzz with the news of TV actors Ayub Khan and Smita Bansal joining the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). On contacting Ayub, it turns out that he has been with the party for over a year now, and Smita is only campaigning for them for the upcoming assembly elections in Delhi.

Ayub says, “I read that tweet, too. I have been associated with the party for one-and-a-half years now. I am supporting them, and we hope for a change. The party made me realise how a common man, too, can contest elections. We all want to eradicate corruption, but one is usually clueless about where to start. However, one needs to have the intent.”

Ayub is enthusiastic about working for the party and helping the country, but doesn’t have any further ambitions. “I don’t have much understanding (of politics). I don’t know how things function. I still have to learn to tackle problems. However, although I have been offered tickets, I am not looking to contest elections yet.” On being contacted, Smita said, “I am only campaigning in Delhi.”
