Amitabh Bachchan collects pens while Aishwarya Rai likes stocking boarding passes. Dia Mirza has a fetish for sandals and Shah Rukh Khan collects… well, houses. Or so it seems. After acquiring properties in the blue chip sites of Mumbai, Delhi and Dubai, the Bollywood baadshah’s latest acquisition is in Queen’s own city — London.
SRK who once played a Londoner in DDLJ, one of his biggest hits, has bought a house in Park Street, a hip neighbourhood that falls in Westminsiter, a London borough that is also home to Buckingham Palace. A breathtaking ascendancy for a man who once lived in a hovel in Delhi’s Rajinder Nagar, SRK’s English home has six floors. According to sources, this luxurious house must have set him back by at least Rs 72 crore to 90 crore.
Apparently, SRK intends to buy more such nests in his favourite cities across the world. In an earlier interview to HT City, he had stated the reason behind this obsession. He said, “When I was a child living in Delhi, we always had to put up in rented houses.” His father passed away before the family could get a roof of its own. “So, houses have become an obsession with me. I want myself and my children to own as many houses in every part of the world as possible,” he added.
With dream pads in Bandra, Palm Island and Panchsheel Park, the London house marks SRK’s entry into the West. “I love walking in London. It’s the world’s hub and anyone doing well there is a top-notch achiever,” he said. So are you.
