Are you the jester in your friend circle and looking for a platform to perform seriously? Or are you a closet comic waiting to be discovered? Here’s your chance. The Comedy Store at the Palladium is offering amateur comics a chance to become the next big comedy star.

The prize? A five-minute spot at the weekend show, Best in Stand-up, with three international comedians from UK.Also, the winners will also get advice from Don Ward, the owner of The Comedy Store, and have their photographs featured at the box-office for the entire month. But the best part about this event is that the method of judging the competition will be an applause-o-meter. The winner will be decided depending upon who receives the maximum amount of applause from the audience.

Says Varun Thakur, the host of the event, “The applause-o-meter will establish who is ‘The Raw Champion of the Month’. It records the level of applause in decibels for a performer once he finishes his act. This is great from the audience’s point of view, as they can support their friends and people whom they find genuinely funny.” At the competition, each participant will get to perform an act of four minutes. The finale will see two comics in a one-minute joke-off. The participants can also bring in a friend for moral support, and will get free food and drinks.

Talking about the event, Charlotte Ward, daughter of Don Ward and operations manager of The Comedy Store says, “This is the first open mic night we are holding for the local Mumbai talent. From now on, this will be a monthly event and will be open to anybody and everybody with a funny bone. At the end of the show, the host might also call upon any member of the audience to perform on stage. Anybody who couldn’t register on time can use this opportunity.”

Thakur says, “I started out eight months ago at a similar open mic night. But it doesn’t get bigger than The Comedy Store.” The winner of Hamateur Night at Blue Frog feels that it is a brilliant start for newcomers, who get a chance to perform on such a big platform. “It is a wonderful opportunity for guys who have just started out,” he adds. The even will be on at The Comedy Store on July 13, 8.30 pm onwards.
