Kareena KapoorIt was only a matter of time before Kareena Kapoor got bitten by the virtual bug. After seeing how stars like Shah Rukh Khan, Amitabh Bachchan and Salman Khan interact with thousands of fans on a daily basis via blogs and microblogging sites, Bebo too has decided to sign up for Facebook and Twitter.

The actress recently started two official fan pages — Club Kareena Kapoor on Facebook and ClubKareena on Twitter. Unlike the others, however, she will check her sites regularly but won’t be a full-time participant.

Says the star’s spokesperson, “She will not be tweeting or hooking up on Facebook on a daily basis but will come on both the social networking and micro-blogging sites at least once in two weeks whenever she gets time from her professional commitments. Both pages will have the latest updates on her movies and endorsements, along with new pictures.”

Kareena’s Twitter handle is about a month old and isn’t updated frequently. But there are constant feeds of her movements on the website. Kareena currently has about 446 followers and the Kapoor diva will probably get more involved in social networking soon. “Rujuta Divekar’s book, Don’t Lose your Mind, Lose your Weight is a bestseller. It has an introduction by Kareena,” says the latest tweet on the account.

Incidentally, there are over 25 fake Kareena accounts on Twitter and 40 unofficial Kareena pages on Facebook, one of which has 47,703 fans. Kareena may be excited about her link with fans, but beau, actor Saif Ali Khan, has no intentions following suit. “I’m too private a person to share my thoughts with the world. I’d rather keep strangers at a distance unless I strike a deal with a mobile company to stay connected,” said Saif.
