Filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali has been in the news lately, thanks to the darts aimed at his direction by once good friends, director Karan Johar and actor Rani Mukerji. Even his protégé Sonam Kapoor, whom he launched in Saawariya (2007), has hit out against him for a recent interview he gave to a tabloid.
Earlier this month, Karan had lashed out at Sanjay, insisting he was no longer a friend for publicly running down Sonam. The actor, as a guest on Koffee With Karan, had in jest retorted to the question of how she would react if she woke up to find that she had turned into Sanjay Leela Bhansali: "I'd add more colour to my life, apart from black and blue"
Yesterday, Rani, who had come up with an award- winning performance in Bhansali's Black (2005), expressed hurt over her once-favourite director alleging that she'd stolen a couple of words from a title that he had registered for one of his productions and used them for her Yash Raj film, Dil Bole Haddipa. While Rani insisted that they are still friends, she admitted that she'd not expected Sanjay to make angry remarks against her, knowing that an actor had little say in deciding a movie's title.
Sanjay, co-judge on the reality show X Factor, when prodded, crooned, 'Kuch toh log kahenge, logon ka kaam hai kehna...', adding, "It would be unfair of me to comment," given he doesn't know exactly what they've said against him.
So he does get ruffled when former friends take him on in the press? Sanjay answered with a line from another of his favourite songs, 'Chingari koi bhadke...', adding with a smile, "They're my friends and I don't get affected by anyone lashing out at me. We're human beings, we can hurt and we can be hurt. We make associations… keep some, lose some and get some back. And I'm part of show business. You sail through everything with a peaceful smile and a strong mind."
