Alia-Bhatt-did-not-want-to-make-her-debut-with-dad-Mahesh-Bhatt-s-film

She may be all of 19, but Alia Bhatt is making all the right noise about her debut film, Student Of The Year (SOTY). The first trailer of the film released recently amid a lot of fanfare. However, Alia’s father, filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt, was conspicuous by his absence.

Alia says that her father wanted to be at the launch, but couldn’t make it because of prior commitments. “He told me, ‘If you want me to come, I’ll be there.’ But it would have been hard for him to come and go back to Delhi (while working on Jism 2 and Raaz 3).”

However, dear daddy Bhatt has finally managed to watch the trailer, and he is all praises for it.

Alia says, “I was very nervous (about my father’s reaction). If he doesn’t like something, he is blunt and says it to your face. Fortunately, he loved it, and even texted Karan about it. He told him, ‘It looks alive and matches Hollywood standards because it looks grand and spectacular’.”

Alia, who stars in SOTY alongside other newcomer leads Varun Dhawan (David Dhawan’s son) and Sidharth Malhotra (model-turned-actor), was first seen on screen as a child actor in the 1999 film, Sangharsh (Mahesh Bhatt wrote the script for the film).

During the filming of SOTY, Alia’s mother Soni Razdan had constantly been by her side, Alia’s father, however, seems to have made a conscious decision to keep himself uninvolved. He apparently went on the sets only once to meet her. “My mum was travelling with me and read the script too. But my father wanted to watch the movie as part of the audience and not as my father. He wanted it to be a surprise for him,” says Alia.
