Last Thursday may have been one of the proudest days in Mahesh Bhapathi’s life, when he and Sania Mirza won the mixed-doubles at the French Open. But the tennis ace now has other, arguably even more exciting, things on his mind.
Specifically, a pram, a crib, rainwear, soft toys and warm clothes for his four-month-old daughter, Saira, who together with her mother, Lara Dutta, will be with Mahesh in London tomorrow.
The new daddy tells us he can barely wait to hold his little girl in his arms and be with his lovely wife. When we called him in London, Mahesh was at a mall, shopping for little Saira and ensuring that his London flat is baby-ready. “I’m just waiting to hold my little princess, my lucky mascot,” Mahesh said, adding, “I cannot contain my happiness. I am setting up a place for her with all kinds of baby stuff. She’ll be here for a month with Lara.”
High on Mahesh’s shopping list for his baby girl is a raincoat. “It’s pouring in London,” he shares earnestly. “We have to keep her warm and dry.”
This will be Saira’s first trip abroad and Lara’s first holiday since she became a mother on January 20.
