Ever since last week’s Bharat Bandh called by the Opposition against rising prices, the song Mehangaai daayan... from Peepli Live has become popular.

So producer Aamir Khan has decided to give due importance to the original creators of the track, villagers of Badwai, where director Anusha Rizvi shot the film. Khan, who hasn't held any music launch of his films so far, had a change of mind this time.

Aamir Khan"Seeing the response Mehangaai daayan has generated, Aamir felt that getting the creators of the song to launch the music of Peepli Live would be the best way to ensure their recognition," says our source, adding that the actor-producer is flying them down to Mumbai for the music launch.

As the evening's special, the villagers of Badwai will be singing Mehangaai daayan at the venue, Blue Frog, with Rock group Indian Ocean, which has composed the track. Also joining them will be the song's lead singer, actor Raghuvir Yadav and classical singer Nagin, daughter of the late theatre guru, Habib Tanvir.

The song's popularity soared when BJP leader L K Advani reportedly called on Khan to sell them the rights of the song. “The Opposition wants to use it as their theme song for the forthcoming Bihar elections,” said our source.

Even Laloo Prasad Yadav has his eyes on the song. He's believed to have said that this is the best song on rising prices he's ever heard. While Khan was unavailable for comment, his spokesperson confirmed that the villagers of Badwai will perform live and launch the music.

Khan had sung a few lines of the track at the press conference in Mumbai last week. When asked if Khan would do an encore, his spokesperson replied, “Can't say for sure now. But he just might.”

Well, since he's done it once, there's no reason why Khan won't sing with the Badwai villagers.
