It’s on their sleeve
Actor Shilpa Shetty has designed a new ‘official fan wear collection’ for her Indian Premier League (IPL) team Rajasthan Royals, in association with an apparel brand. There is also limited-edition merchandise available for IPL buffs.
At online stores such as iplshop.com, there are miniature bats, tees and keychains that flaunt the logos of various teams. Websites such as infibeam.com and leading sportwear labels are also offering team jerseys, and tees with IPL logos. Other places to buy these at are Delhidaredevils.com and Chennaisuperkings.com.
Bollywood gears up too
IPL fever has also gripped the film industry, and actors and filmmakers are getting set to attend matches. “We are shooting the last schedule of Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai 2 around that time. Akshay Kumar, Imran Khan, the crew and I follow cricket so we have created a room with plasma screens and recliners, where we will watch the matches,” says filmmaker Milan Luthria. Deepika Padukone is expected to attend a couple of Kolkata Knight Riders’ matches while Abhishek Bachchan, Genelia and Riteish Deshmukh and John Abraham will also attend some matches.
IPL inspired menus in town
City restaurants have come up with a host of ‘crickety’ food offers. While Shangri-La has started two special menus — Beverage Premier League and Straight Drive, the dishes being whipped up at Soi Thai include Mahi fish cakes, Bhajji spring rolls, and Zaheer sui mai.
Bar-king has created a special pitch platter with chicken and potato bats and wickets, and cheese balls over a cabbage bed pitch.
There are also some fun discounts. At the Pink Room, people wearing pink will get a vodka shot free on every sixer, at Smoke House Deli, you’ll get a flat 25% off on their special IPL menu.
