Highlight Story

A lot of sparkle will be missing from the IIFA awards, being held in Macau this month, as star after star pulls out of attending for one reason or the other.

Akshay Kumar, the latest celebrity to say he will not go, has so decided as his son Aarav’s school holidays coincide with the awards, and he wants to spend time with his family after working overseas for a long stretch, says a source.

Apparently, Kareena Kapoor has also excused herself as she will be watching the T20 World Cup in England.

The biggest blow will the absence of all the Khans. Shah Rukh Khan is busy shooting for My Name Is Khan, along with Karan Johar and Kajol; Saif Ali Khan will be occupied with an endorsement deal in the US; Salman Khan, who was earlier supposed to perform at the awards, pulled put saying that he needs to concentrate on his show Dus Ka Dum; and Aamir Khan will maintain his usual stand of staying away from awards functions.

Aamir’s nephew, actor Imran Khan, will not attend either. Reportedly, he does not want a repeat of the Filmfare awards, where he had to share the Best Debut award with Farhan Akhtar. However, Imran says his absence is due to personal reasons.

Other prominent stars missing from IIFA include Sanjay Dutt, Fardeen Khan and Ajay Devgan, who are busy shooting in Goa. John Abraham, Rani Mukherji, Ranbir Kapoor and Preity Zinta will also give it a miss.
