The Dirty Picture is a biopic on actor Silk Smitha produced by Ekta Kapoor and directed by Milan Luthria. Sex icon Silk Smitha was a popular item girl who captivated millions. The actor was found dead in her Chennai apartment in 1996.
Ekta Kapoor (producer) refers to her as one of the muses in the film. Ekta told HT: "She (Silk Smitha) is one of our muses, along with other Southern actors like Shakeela, Nylon Nandini and Polyester Padmini. My film is not inspired by any one of them, but is a reflection of an era when they used their sexuality to carve a niche for themselves in the male-dominated South film industry. Many frowned upon them, but they were survivors and their power over the masses cannot be denied," she added.
The film will be released on December 2 which is Smitha's birth date.
