He’s discouraged citizens from being rude to tourists; he’s done his bit to curb malnutrition among children. And now, Aamir Khan is all set to urge people to go out and vote in the upcoming general elections.

After being associated with the Ministry of Tourism’s ‘Atithi Devo Bhava’ and the Ministry of Women & Child Development’s malnutrition campaigns, Aamir will now be the face of the Election Commission’s (EC) initiative to spread awareness about the importance of voting.

A source close to the actor reveals, “About 15 days ago, Aamir had a meeting with officials from the Election Commission, where they discussed the campaign. It’s a nationwide initiative through which Aamir will tell citizens to practise judicious voting” The actor will finish shooting the campaign before the nation goes to polls in early April.

And Aamir isn’t the only one being roped in to help with the elections. Cricketer Virat Kohli, too, has reportedly been approached by the EC for the same campaign. Recently, in a fun campaign for a news channel, Amitabh Bachchan told voters that while actors get retakes, they won’t, so they should pick their candidate with care.

Similarly, Salman Khan, too, associated himself with spreading awareness during one of his promotional visits to Gujarat. Another news channel has been urging female voters to exercise their right by featuring actors such as Varun Dhawan, Ranveer Singh, Parineeti Chopra, Arjun Kapoor and Preity Zinta, among others, in their campaign. Even TV actor Meghna Malik has been roped in by the Haryana Election Commission to encourage people to get their names enrolled in the electoral rolls.
