Shoojit Sircar and John Abraham are gearing up to make a film on the 1911 IFA Shield, in which Indian football club Mohun Bagan defeated a British team, East Yorkshire, for the first time in history.
John Abraham, an avid football fan, will play the lead. The script, however, demands a male second lead, and reports suggested that Ayushmann Khurrana was in the running.

Shoojit said, "I am currently busy with the scripting of 1911 and I had spoken about the film to Ayushmann and he had agreed to do it, however I would like him to re-read the script when it is ready and then decide finally."
Meanwhile, Ayushmann has gone ahead and spoken at length about being in the film, and even about how he has asked his brother — a football lover — to guide him.
When we called him for a reaction, he still sounded sure about being on board. "I am doing the film," he said. Shoojit
is set to start shooting the film after finishing his project with Amitabh Bachchan
and Deepika Padukone.
Since it is going on floors by July, and the film requires lots of research and pre-production, the film-maker expects to shoot it only next year.
He says, "We are writing it now, and will start our preparations subsequently. It’s a difficult film as it’s a period drama. But it’s a big event — for Bengalis and for India."
