Mohit Suri's romantic thriller Ek Villain is the second highest opening film of 2014! Beating Sajid Khan's Humshakals that realeased last Friday and made Rs. 12 crore, the Riteish Deshmukh, Siddharth Malhotra and Shraddha Kapoor starrer raked in Rs. 16.72 crore on day one.
The year's biggest opener was Salman Khan's Jai Ho which made Rs. 17 crore on day one. Ek Villain's record was just a tad less that that.
The film opened on 2539 screens and in terms of screen average, it's the highest opener, tweeted trade analyst Taran Adarsh. The film's lead actor Riteish Deshmukh too took to Twitter to share the figures and thank fans for the support.
Unlike most of the below average stuff (read Humshakals) Bollywood unleashes on us every Friday, this film stands out for its ingenuity.

And with the great reviews Ek Villain is garnering for its intriguing story line and dark screenplay, the film promises an exciting weekend collection.
The film also made a mark at the international ticket windows and is doing great business in the oversees market. It has already earned $130,000 or Rs. 78.03 lack in the US and Canada. Even better are the UAE figures, where the film has already made Rs. 3.11 crores.
