Rs 100-crore club movies of 2014: Ek Villian joins Holiday, 2 States & Jai Ho

Ek Villain capped a fabulous two-week run at the box office with Rs. 100 crore in its kitty on Thursday. Released on June 27, the film has become the fourth bollywood film this year to enter the prestigious club.

Story of a gangster-turned-good (Siddharth Malhotra) with love and a psycho killer who lives in the guise of an middle-class 'good' man, EK Villain is the 30th movie to enter this club.

After becoming the second biggest opener of the year with Rs. 12 crore on the day of its release, Mohit Suri's romantic thriller earned Rs. 77.2 crore in its first week itself- the second highest week one collection in 2014.

During its secong week, Ek Villain earned Rs. 2.50 crore on Monday, Rs. 2.20 crore on Tuesday, Rs. 2 crore on Wednesday and Rs. 1.7 crore on Thursday and reached the grand total of 101.32 cr.


Film trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted, "#EkVillain [Week 2] Mon 2.50 cr, Tue 2.20 cr, Wed 2 cr, Thu 1.74 cr. Grand total: Rs. 101.32 cr nett. India biz. BLOCKBUSTER."

Jai Ho

Salman Khan's much anticipated movie Jai Ho was the first film to enter the 100 crore club this year. In fact the movie earned Rs. 88 crore in its first week itself and became the highest grosser of 2014, the record that it holds till date. The net collection of the movie is Rs. 111.00 crore.

With Jai Ho, the king of masala entertainers had a social message to share. Despite doing a decent business at the Box office, the superstar was neither happy with the response nor the collections.



An official remake of the Telugu film, Stalin, Jai Ho narrated the story of Jai (Salman Khan), an ex-army officer and a samaritan whose big idea is to create a chain of good deeds but standing in his way is a long list of of assorted villains.

Holiday: a soldier is never off duty

With around Rs. 112.65 crore in its kitty, Holiday tops the list of 100 crore club released this year. The film, starring Akshay Kumar and Sonakshi Sinha, opened to good reviews and earned over Rs. 40 crore in the first weekend itself.




The film, a remake of the 2012 Tamil film Thuppakki, is a story of Virat Bakshi (Akshay), a soldier on leave who is on a bride hunting mission and meets Sahiba (Sonakshi Sinha). But during the process, he long with his cop buddy (Sumeet Raghavan) catches a terrorist who is part of a sleeper cell. The movie takes a turn from here and the soldier is engaged in a cat-and-mouse game with a terror mastermind (Freddy Daruwala).

2 States

Released in April this year, 2 States entered the 100 crore club in the fourth week of its release. The net collection of this movie, based on Chetan Bhagat's novel with the same title, stand at Rs. 104.00 cr.

The first 100-crore hit of newbies Alia Bhatt and Arjun Kapoor, the film essayed the story of Punjabi boy Krish Malhotra (Arjun Kapoor) who falls in love with a Tamilian girl Ananya Swaminathan. Deeply in love, the couple fights all odds to bring their families together for their happy marriage.
