Anurag Kashyap is a busy man these days, so hard-pressed that he has no time to revel in the success of his hit TV series, Yudh. Instead, he is currently concentrating on promoting Kaatiyabaaz -- a documentary produced by his Phantom Films.
Based on the menace of power theft in Kanpur, Kashyap released its first trailer recently. The film is scheduled to hit theatres in August.
Directed by Deepti Kakkar and Fahad Mustafa, Kaatiyabaaz highlights Kanpur's fight with power thefts and load-shedding from the perspective of Loha Singh, a local katiyabaaz
who, with an almost vigilante-like attitude, steals electricity for the locals of the town.
The trailer highlights the typical struggle between people of a city who show no moral qualms while resorting to shortcuts to make their lives worth living and corrupt government officials.
The movie has been screened at several film festivals around the world including Tribeca Film Festival, London Open Docs Fest, Internationale Filmfestspiele Berlin, Berlin Film Festival, Melbourne International Film Festival, Festival do Rio, Raindance Film Festival, Viennale Film Festival, Copenhagen CPH:DOX and International Documentary Film Festival.
