Gulaab Gang producer Anubhav Sinha denies that his film portrays Bundelkhand's Gulabi Gang activist Sampat Pal in any way.

Gulabi Gang is a group of Indian women vigilantes in UP who are notorious for beating up harassing husbands to uphold housewives' dignity at home.

The producer was in Lucknow on a personal visit for a few hours on Monday .

"It's a woman's fight for women's rights who ends up fighting another woman. The film is not inspired by Sampat Pal at all. The story is set in Madhya Pradesh. Soumik Sen, (director) came to me with the script and I liked it so went for it," he said.

In fact, the release of a documentary on Sampat Pal two weeks ahead of Gulaab Gang release, has set rumour mills churning.

“The documentary was made years back. They are timing it now to cash in on the hype. But I am ok with it. I am all for documentaries and believe that they should also do well,” he said.

Once the film is screened, everything becomes clear, he said, adding, “the high-voltage action and war between two women (Madhuri Dixit and Juhi Chawla) in the trailers suggest what the film is about.”

About releasing the film song in his hometown Varanasi last month, he said, "I am 48 now. As I am growing older now, I have started craving for my roots. It was for my love for the city that my music was released there. My company Benaras Media Works too is in the name of my hometown. I am from the city and that does not means all my projects will be based here. But in all possible manner I will stay connected to the city."

Post film release next month, Anubhav plans a break before starting on new projects. "I have three scripts in hand and am yet to decide which one I will direct next. They will be different from the projects I have done so far."
