Alia Bhatt, Varun Dhawan-starrer Humpty Sharma ki Dulhania seems to have interrupted the dream run of Ek Villain with its collection of Rs. 9.02 crore on Friday.

While the film got good response in North India, its collections were affected in Maharashtra due to heavy rains. Also, Riteish Deshmukh's Marathi film Lai Bhaari opened to rave reviews in the state, somewhat affecting HSKD.

Trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted, "#HumptySharmaKiDulhania Fri 9.02 cr nett. India biz. Despite heavy rains. Despite #LaiBhaari affecting biz in Maharashtra. VERY GOOD! (sic)"

The film is also Dhawan's biggest opener till date. Adarsh said in another tweet, "#MainTeraHero opening day was 6.60 cr nett, while #HumptySharmaKiDulhania is 9.02 cr nett. Varun Dhawan's biggest opener!"

In an interview, Varun also said he had high hopes from the film and wanted his audience to be "happy" after seeing the film.

Talking about working with Alia in the film, he said, "Working with her, I actually had to change my acting style completely and unlearn a lot of things that I had applied to my characters earlier on. Both of us influenced each other's performances to a large extent."

He said that he has worked the hardest on this film. "To be very honest, I worked harder on Humpty than my last film, Main Tera Hero. I did many workshops. I never did workshops in Main Tera Hero. There was a lot more improvisation in my dad's film. Humpty's director Shashank Khaitan is a different school. Shashank controlled my expressions. I normally do a half-smile on camera. He showed me how to smile fully. I also delivered my lines slower, much slower."

Meanwhile, Ek Villain has crossed Rs. 100-crore Rubicon and is already amongst the biggest hits of the year. The film stars Siddharth Malhotra, Riteish and Shraddha Kapoor.
