Shraddha Kapoor, daughter of actor Shakti Kapoor and niece to actor Padmini Kolhapure, has inherited more Punjabi traits in terms of looks, than Marathi. But as far as her upbringing is concerned, she says she’s a “complete Marathi mulgi”. And this has worked to her advantage.
The actor, who made her debut with Teen Patti (2010), will be seen playing the lead role of a Maharashtrian girl in Aashiqui 2. Preparing for the role hasn’t been too much of a task for Shraddha. She explains, “My mom’s a Maharasht-rian and my maternal grandparents stay close by. Thanks to that, right from my eating habits to my mannerisms, my upbringing has been completely Maharashtrian.” She adds, “I’m also very fluent in Marathi. And the character I’m playing in Aashiqui 2 is that of a Maharashtrian girl. So I’m lucky to have inspiration at my disposal.”
About the film and co-star Aditya Roy Kapur, she says, “People still listen to the music of Aashiqui (1990). The film is a classic, so it’s an honour to be part of Aashiqui 2. The music and the script of the film are great. Besides, Mohit (Suri) is a wonderful director. Ever since I saw Guzaarish (2010), I’ve thought of Aditya as a great actor. I’m looking forward to working with him.”
