Pakistani actor Fawad Khan, who garnered praise for his role on a TV show, is soon going to make his Bollywood debut with Sonam Kapoor in Khoobsurat. As he gears up for the transition, we catch up with him and ask him about meeting Bollywood actors, the India-Pakistan equation, and more.
Are you socialising with the Bollywood crowd now? Have you met many actors?
None, actually. I’m a shy person and it (not meeting a lot of people) has more to do with me not being an extrovert. Besides Sonam and Anil Kapoor, I have just had an interaction with Aditya Pancholi.
Are you in touch with other Pakistani actors like Ali Zafar, Imran Abbas and Humaima Malik, who’ve done Bollywood projects?
Yes, I am. I’ve worked with them and have a good rapport with them. But I don’t step out much [with them]. I’m an introvert.
Veteran actor Dilip Kumar’s house in Pakistan was recently declared a National Heritage. Have you ever visited the place?
Yes, I’ve heard. We consider it a matter of pride. I have been to Peshawar when I was a kid, but not to the house. But now that I visit Mumbai regularly, I wish him good health, and I hope I will be able to go [visit the site], and [I’d love to] meet him one day.
Are you interested in cricket? Do you enjoy watching the game, especially India-Pakistan matches?
I stopped watching cricket way back in 1996 after Pakistan lost to India in World Cup; I cried very bitterly that night, as I was heartbroken. In fact, my father told my mom that he will not watch any matches after that. But, I have been told that it is a big thing when both teams clash be it India, Pakistan or elsewhere. Also, at the age of 17, I was diagnosed with diabetes, so my interest in sports went down as I couldn’t play.
Coming back to films, which was the last Hindi film you watched in Pakistan?
The last movie I saw was Queen. That way, I’m quite updated about films.
Do you find any Indian actresses particularly attractive?
I haven’t had much interaction with women post the age of 17, when I fell in love with the lady who’s now my wife. But I think women in both the countries are beautiful. I have a thing for dusky skin... In fact, my wife is also dusky. I think, back in her day, Anu Agarwal was a bombshell.
