After being cast opposite actresses like Tabu (in Maqbool, 2003, and The Namesake, 2006) and Konkona Sen Sharma (in Life In A… Metro; 2007), Irrfan Khan seems all set to romance Deepika Padukone in Shoojit Sircar’s upcoming film.
Shoojit is currently working on his next, titled Piku, that revolves around a father-daughter relationship.
While Amitabh Bachchan plays the father, Deepika will be his daughter in the film.
Although Irrfan’s role — that of Deepika’s love interest — hasn’t been spoken about much, an insider reveals that he does have a substantial part in it.
We tried reaching Shoojit, but he remained unavailable for a comment.
A source close to the Madras Café (2013) director says, "He is in the script discussion stage with Bachchan sir at the moment. He will only talk about the film once things are finalised."
The film is expected to go on the floors later this year.
Incidentally, this is the second film that Shoojit and Bachchan will do together. They have previously worked on a movie titled Johnny Mastana that never released due to a legal tangle.
