The multiplex-Hollywood distributor standoff finally seems to be coming to a slow and anti-climactic end. While through their two-week standoff, all concerned parties refused to go on record about their disagreements over the revised profit sharing ratio, most multiplexes have suddenly decided to screen Hollywood releases this week.

The three movies releasing this week include Fright Night, Spy Kids: All The Time In The World In 3D and 4D, and Bad Teacher. While the decision to screen the first two at all BIG Cinemas around the country was made on Thursday, the Fun Cinemas website opened its box office for advance tickets for Spy Kids 4. “As of now, Spy Kids 4 and Fright Night will release in BIG Cinemas,” said an official from BIG Cinemas.

Meanwhile, PVR, which until now was the only chain screening select Hollywood films, seems to be continuing the trend in full swing and will screen all three.

Unfortunately, officials from Cinemax stood their ground and refused to give a verdict. Sunil Punjabi, CEO of Cinemax, when asked whether they would be releasing any film, replied, saying, “It’s still work in progress.” However, Spy Kids 4 seems to have surpassed all issues, as it is the one film being screened at almost all chains, including INOX and Cinemax.

Over the past two weeks, films like Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes, Captain America: The First Avenger, Winnie The Pooh and Final Destination 5 have suffered at the hands of the multiplexes’ and Hollywood studios’ tiff over their profit shares. They were released only at single screen cinemas in the city.

Moviegoers, meanwhile, are peeved over the lack of options for venues to watch films. “At one point, there were six English movies to pick from. But now, there are hardly any options to watch films in the plexes,” says business analyst and film buff, Aman Rohatgi.
