She might be only one-film old, but that hasn’t kept Alia Bhatt out of the news. Ever since she made her debut with Student Of The Year (2012), the 20-year-old actor has regularly been making headlines.

At times, it’s her future assignments — she’s already bagged two more films — that are written about, and sometimes, rumours about her alleged link-ups with co-stars find their way into newspapers.

A while back, some reports even compared her on-screen presence to Kareena Kapoor Khan.

In this interview, Alia opens up about matters that concern her personal and professional life.

Time and again, you’ve been compared to Kareena. Do you consider this a good sign at this stage in your career?
I feel flattered, but I don’t think this is true. I am a fan of hers. I am not trying to impersonate her or any of her characters because there can only be one Kareena Kapoor Khan. In fact, I would get irritated if someone was trying to be like me. The comparison is being stressed on for some strange reason… maybe because I pout too much.

You’ve been linked to a couple of actors (Varun Dhawan and Arjun Kapoor) in the last few months. Is there any truth to these rumours?
I have been linked with so many actors… I don’t know what to say. I am not in love with any of my co-stars. They are just my friends.

You’re much younger than your contemporaries and there has been a lot of talk about that fact restricting you from working with older actors. What’s your take on this?
I used to consider my age a limitation in the beginning, but now I feel there is always scope for different kinds of films and roles. At the moment, I am doing a film with Randeep Hooda. He is much older, but we have still been cast together. So, I don’t think it’s a limitation anymore. I don’t feel bad about being a baby face because it is true. I am still young and growing. When my features will change, different kinds of films will be made.

Is there any possibility of seeing you in a film produced by your father, Mahesh Bhatt?
(The banner that belongs to Mahesh Bhatt) has not offered me any films as of now. So, whenever there is anything that comes to me and, if I like it, then most definitely I will work under the banner. I hope there is something soon.

Your character in Highway is very different from the one you essayed in Student Of The Year. Was it difficult?
The film is definitely different from my first film, be it my no-make-up look, body language and the character. I don’t know how well I have done in the film. But, I was not consciously thinking of an image makeover. I want to be a versatile actor and experiment as much as I can.

Are you nervous about the audience reaction?
After the first promo was released, I was a pretty nervous. But I am happy after receiving good responses. People are surprised and shocked. Though I will be nervous till the film releases, I am also excited because the songs are being released and people are appreciating them.

You have also turned a singer with the film. Any plans to carry on with playback?
AR Rahman sir is great in this film, and I was really excited when I got to know that he was the music composer for the film. I am grateful to him and Imtiaz sir for giving me the opportunity. I don’t know which direction my career will take, but yes, I am quite keen on singing as well.

Since Karan Johar is known to be your mentor, did you seek his advice before signing Imtiaz’s film?

Karan is my mentor and if I have to go to anybody for anything, it will be him. The first person I called after getting the offer for the film was Karan. He was really happy.

On Karan Johar’s chat show recently, you suggested that Parineeti Chopra needs to put in more effort to improve her fashion sense. How is your equation with her now?
I know Parineeti really well and many people aren’t aware of that. I have also praised her a lot. I think she is a very good actor. Whatever I said was with a positive intention, and none of it was meant to offend anybody and she knows that. There are no hard-feelings.

Kareena Kapoor Khan to make Rs. 8 crore from an endorsement?
Bollywood actor Kareena Kapoor Khan, who endorses several brands, has now been signed on as the Indian and international face of a cosmetic brand.

A source reveals that the actor is likely to pocket close to a whopping `8 crore from this deal.

"Kareena will represent the company for a spectrum of products as well as styling, grooming and their haircare range. She will endorse the 180 salons of the chain across India, UAE and south-east Asia. She will personally travel and share tips at the company’s flagships salons in the city and in Chennai, followed by Dubai and Malaysia."
