Kangana Ranaut is just back after completing her scriptwriting course from New York and now on, she says, she’s charting a changed journey ahead.

"I am trying to do things I really want to, as opposed to things I am expected to do. I am consciously making that change — I’m working on my own terms," says the 27-year-old actor.

Has her last release, the much-acclaimed Queen that was the journey of a girl who set out to find herself, also contributed to that decision? "It’s not like people have suddenly started saying, ‘Oh you are a great actress’. But their perception of me has changed; now they can accept anything from me as an actor."

And so, she isn’t rushing into just about any film. "That’s because I feel secure in my place. I feel like what I am doing is what I deserve to do, and no one else can take it away from me even if I say (to a filmmaker), ‘okay fine, will you wait until mid next year (to cast me in your film)?’. This is the real change versus the time I would say, ‘okay fine I will give you 20 days’ and jump on to other set and divide my time and focus."

Up next is her sequel of Tanu Weds Manu, Reema Kagti’s next and Sai Kabir’s upcoming alongside Irrfan Khan.

"But I am going to do one film at a time. I am not going to do all together… in the past I could have done that, but I won’t do it anymore. As I said, it’s time to ork on my own terms."

She says the scriptwriting course she undertook has been “the best thing” she has done in her life, which puts her in a content place. She’s not looking for anything else right now, including love.

"I am not getting into any relationship because I don’t think I am ready for it. You know there’s a saying that it is better to be unhappy alone than unhappy with someone. I believe two unhappy people multiply. I just got happy so I might remain happy for sometime before I meet another unhappy person and we do live happily in our unhappiness. I am convinced that people are so much better without a relationship or a spouse or a partner. The freedom of that is so intoxicating."
