After the recent protest by singers of Mehngai Dayain grabbed headlines a few weeks ago, the producers of Peepli [Live] have found themselves in a controversy yet again. This time it involves a plagiarism row over a song, spicezee.com reported.

A well known folk singer Rama Joshi alleges that a song Chola mati ke Ram, which has been used in the film, does not give credit to Gangaram Siwar, a celebrated folk singer of Chhattisgarh and the original lyricist of the folk song.

Peepli LiveShe has asked Aamir Khan for remuneration for the song.

Meanwhile Nageen Tanwir, who has sung the song in the movie told the website, "The song, Chola Maati Ke Ram, has been composed by Gangaram Siwar in Chattisgarh, but the Habib Tanvir theatre group has officially purchased rights for the song. So I don't understand why people from Chattisgarh are asking for their due again."

However, Joshi added that it is matter of great pride for the people of Chattisgarh taht their folk music has been incorporated in the film and they will not press legal charges against the makers. But she feels that the original composer's family should be some financial benefit on humanitarian ground.

Surely the producers don't mind any form of publicity.
