If you thought running away from a cop as one ducks Mumbai locals is a scene out of a Bollywood movie, here’s a virtual take.
Danish company Kiloo’s game, Subway Surfers — which has over a hundred million downloads in the Android app world — has Mumbai as its latest backdrop.
This is in-keeping with the game shifting its location with every update as a part of its world tour, with past locales including London, New York and Paris.
Apart from the localised setting: colourful kiosks, a pudgy cop in signature khaki uniform and topi, and a tiger-print hoverboard named Bengal, what’s making the Mumbai edition trend is the new character, Jay. His stark resemblance to actor Farhan Akhtar’s character (of former athlete Milkha Singh) from the film, Bhaag Milkha Bhaag, is creating buzz on social networks. Even Farhan tweeted about the look. “Hmm... looks familiar... Bas tu Bhaag Milkha,” he wrote.
Yasha Kalani, an online fashion retailer loves the update. “Running away from the portly havaldar.. collecting lotus flowers...it’s entertaining! And when you are Milkha, you feel pretty invincible!” But some like RJ Kastooree Tolmare, want a Delhi edition. “It’d be fun… running through metro stations with sights of CP and Qutub Minar.”
What tweeple have to say
-@scaryhairyman: Hmm... looks familiar... Bas tu Bhaag Milkha.-@FarOutAkhtar What they forgot in the Mumbai update is that you can bribe the cop running after you.
-@mojokajojo: It would have looked more real if there were people hanging to the doors of moving trains.
Farhan worked closely with Flying Sikh - Milkha Singh to prepare for the film Bhaag Milkha Bhaag.
